AkwaIbom State can be described as Nigeria’s Mother Nature because of its natural sights. The state is now of one of the most beautiful states in Nigeria, thanks to its peaceful, clean environment and good road network. AkwaIbomis located in South South Nigeria. It is bordered by Rivers state, Cross River state, Abia state, and Cameroon. After it was created from Cross River State on September 23, 1987, Uyo became the capital of the state.Here are interesting places you should visit whenever you come to Uyo.

Ibeno Beach

Ibeno beach is the longest beach in Nigeria and West Africa. Its beautiful sand provides the best place for recreational activities such as picnics and games with friends and families. There are other similar beaches you can find in Uyo in places like:IkotAbasi, Abadia, Nwaniba, and Oron.

 

National Museum of Colonial History

The National Museum of Colonial History is located at Wellington Bassey way. This museum has an education center, a research library, and a museum shop. Its boasts of artifacts, ethnographic pieces, carvings archival, antiques, personal items which shows the history of AkwaIbom and its people. The museum also has a beautiful garden where one can sit and watch small boats drift along the creeks. It provides deep historical knowledge related to colonial era and also the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

 

AkwaIbom International Stadium
AkwaIbom International Stadium, popularly referred to as the Champions Nest, is a 30,000 seater, multipurpose sport complex. It is modeled after Allianz Arena in Germany. The stadium is one of the best stadiums in Nigeria, which has been used to host social, religious and cultural events. Here are the facilities you can find in the stadium: 400m standard tracks, box office, a helipad, floodlights ,dressing rooms, generator, VVIP and VIP areas,  emergency exits, 30,000 capacity main bowl, and warm up facility  which features 6 lane 400m tracks.

 

Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Center
This ultra-modern entertainment center was designed for both business and leisure.  The center features a five-star hotel, a convention center, a shopping mall, and a cinema. This is the best place to experience the bubbling nightlife of Uyo. It has been referred to by many visitors as Nigeria’s Sun City of South Africa and Disneyland in Orlando.

The Amalgamation House

The Amalgamation house holds a significant historical importance in Nigeria history. The building is a cottage where Lord Luggard proclaimed the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates in 1914. The Amalgamation House,according to history, once served as the premier administrative headquarters in AkwaIbom State before it was moved to the city of Calabar. Lord Luggard’s residence is opposite the Amalgamation house.

This park, also known as the cenotaph, is a public park which holds monument for fallen heroes. It attracts hundreds of nationals every year during the Armed forces Remembrance Day. The park is also used for other events like wedding receptions, sporting activities and of course, picnics! Several bars dotting the area make it a sure spot for experiencing the pleasant taste of grilled snails, dog meat, suya, palm wine, and other forms of delicious delicacies.
